Student 1: My teacher says that my work is not good enough. I don’t think this is because I am not intelligent. I think it is because I don’t know how to study. What advice can you give me?
Professor Ken: Students often do badly at school because they have poor study habits. It is very important to make good use of your time. If you have homework, try to do it at the same time every day. And don’t leave it until late in the evening when you are tired. Do it as soon as you get home from school. Make a timetable for your homework and keep to it.
Student 2: I need somewhere quiet to study but I live in a noisy apartment block and there are always children running around the house.
Professor Ken: Noise can be a big problem. If you cannot use a study room at school or a public library, then try to have a part of your flat where you can sit looking at a wall. Buy a pair of cheap earphones and play peaceful music on a Mp3. You will soon get used to the music and it will hide all other sounds.
