Bluegills（蓝腮太阳鱼）, a species about the size of a human hand are being included in the fight against terrorism（恐怖主义）. They are so common that practically every American kid who has ever dropped a fishing line into a pond has probably caught one.

It was reported at least one example in which the fish discovered a toxin before it made it into the water supply. The fish noticed the toxin two hours earlier than any of the other tools.

However, bluegills do have disadvantages. While the bluegills have successfully found at least 30 toxic things,they cannot discover germs（细菌）. And they are of no use against other kinds of attacks, such as the bombing of a water main, or attack by computer hackers on the systems that control the flow of water.
