It is a special day this Friday. What kind of day is it?

◆It’s the Chongyang Festival this Friday. The Chongyang Festival, also named the Double Ninth Festival, falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. There are two ninths in the date, so it gets name of the Double Ninth Festival.

Activities

Climbing a mountain, carrying a spray (枝) of dogwood （山茱萸） and drinking chrysanthemum （菊花） wine are the traditional activities on the Double Ninth Festival.

On the Double Ninth Festival, people would like to drink chrysanthemum wine and have chrysanthemum cakes.

A Day for Outing

The Double Ninth Festival is held in the golden season of autumn, at the harvest-time. It is usually perfect for outdoor activities. Many people go hiking and climbing in the countryside, enjoying themselves with their families and friends.

◆In addition, it is a day for the elderly, and also a day for grandparents.

So the Chongyang Festival is also the Elderly Day. Our grandparents have worked very hard for our families. We should show respected for them. We should give them our thanks. Let’s give our best wishes to all the elderly!
