I Like the Spring Festival Best

The Spring Festival is coming!

The Spring Festival is so attractive (吸引人的) for me. This is the time of eating, drinking and playing. It usually comes in the early February. But I have begun to expect to have it from the early January every year.

Tomorrow is the first day of a new year. Everyone will wear new clothes and new shoes.

I like visiting our relatives(亲戚) and friends during the Spring Festival, because I can eat a lot of delicious food. I can also get lucky money from my parents and relatives. That is the happiest thing for me. After dinner I like playing with my cousins. We can talk and play happily all the time.

I like the Spring Festival. And I like the winter holidays, too.

The Busy and Happy Spring Festival

    China is a big country. People in different places celebrate the holidays in different ways. But all the people can feel busy and happy.

The holidays are busy days for adults because of much housework. They need to go shopping, clean up and decorate their houses. But children always look forward to its coming because much delicious food and many beautiful clothes are waiting for them...

On the Eve of the Spring Festival, all the family members sit around the table and have a big meal. On the morning of the first day of the Spring Festival, adults like to visit their parents and grandparents with their children.

The next several days, people will visit their friends and relatives with presents. It’s a good job for children because they can get more lucky money to buy things they like. Everyone says “Happy New Year！”, to wish each other a good year ahead. Many people say “Gong Xi Fa Cai”. This is to wish another prosperous (繁荣的) year.

The Spring Festival in My Eyes

In western countries the most important holiday is Christmas, but in China it is the Spring Festival. You can see red things everywhere, because in China red means happiness and zest (热情).

The Chinese people like to buy red things for the Spring Festival. If you walk in the street, you can see red lights and lanterns here and there. At the same time, they like to hang red lanterns and Chinese knots(中国结) in their houses. It makes everywhere full of happiness.

During the Spring Festival, people usually wear red clothes to visit parents and grandparents. They believe the red color can bring them good luck.

★     老爷爷讲春节的故事——

The Story of the Spring Festival

Many years ago, there was a beast (兽) with the name of Nian. It was tall and strong. It had a big mouth and a very large nose. It lived in the bottom of the sea and came out of the sea every 365 days.

After it jumped out of the sea, it ran into the villages, ate the villagers and their animals, broke their plants and crops and then went back to the sea. People became very sad and hopeless until an old man came to help them. The old man told the villagers to light firecrackers, put on red letters on their doors, and beat drums (击鼓) to drive Nian away. The idea worked and Nian was frightened and ran away.

The villagers and their animals were safe. Smiles came back to their faces again.  From then on, people began to have the Spring Festival.
